Last week, Thursday, I woke up and the mad scientist in me demanded an experiment. So, I decided to see how quickly I could go from zero to Page One of Google of a website for local search terms. I mean, I was ready to start at absolutely zero…no domain name…nothing. After some mental discussion with myself about what industry I wanted to get build this site for, I decided on electricians. Everyone needs and electrician. Seriously, I could prune my trees if I really had to. I could paint walls if I really had to. I could pour some Drano down the sink if I really had to. But, electrical work…no way. Hold a gun to my head and tell me to wire a house, and I’d be seriously challenged. So, I went with electrician industry. I decided to go for search engine rank for the town that is the surf capital of the world, Haleiwa, on the North Shore of the island of Oahu, HI that is the home to many electricians.

Well, according to WhoIs.net I registered the domain name on May 12, 2011. After registering the domain name, I built a search engine optimized website. I did some Search Engine Optimization magic on the site and when I checked it today, May 17, 2011 the site had page one placement for tons of targeted search phrases including: electrician haleiwa, haleiwa electrician, commercial electrician haleiwa, residential electrician haleiwa, haleiwa residential electrician, haleiwa commercial electrician, house wiring haleiwa, circuit breaker haleiwa, exhaust fans haleiwa, track lighting haleiwa, accent lighting haleiwa, light switches haleiwa, electrician north shore oahu, north shore oahu electrician, north shore oahu residential electrician, north shore oahu commercial electrician, commercial electrician north shore oahu, residential electrician north shore oahu.

If you were an electrician and your website showed up on page one of Google, and even page 1, number 1 for about half of those phrases, what difference would that make in your business?

Now, I’m not an electrician so I have no use for the website. Do you know of an electrician that would like more phone calls? Have them email info@integrityonlinemarketing.com about the Haleiwa electrician website for information about how they can own the site.

Got a website, you’d like additional exposure for online? Email info@integrityonlinemarketing.com.
Want to learn how to effectively market your business online? Free training at www.internetpowerradio.com.

Oh, and if you do need a residential or commercial electrician in Haleiwa, be sure to check in with Dave Hancock at Paumalu Electric, he’s the guy I personally call when I need an electrician. His number is (808) 638-9054.

“May I have your card?” Nate stalls….waits….thinks…holds his breath…and replies, “Um, sure” while he slowly hands it over. Why am I holding my breath? There is a growing trend of small business owners collecting business cards and adding those people to their email lists. This is not how to build a mailing list. That’s SPAM. And after you get a couple SPAM complaints from people who didn’t join your list, your email company will close your account, you’ll lose all you lists, and possibly your website.

When someone gives you a business card they are not authorizing you to add them to your email list. Sure, you can add them to your contacts database but not to your mailing list. For someone to join your mailing list, they have to personally enter their name and email address in a form, either online or on paper, and confirm that they would like to be added to your list. And to be extra sure about it, most email management systems then send a second email to the subscribed person requesting that they confirm again that they want to be on the list (called a double-optin). Getting someone’s business card then forcing that person onto your list is…SPAM, and it can get you in trouble.

How much trouble? First of all, you’re shooting yourself in the foot by sending unsolicited information to someone you hope will be a client of yours. Bridge of trust…. BURNED. I mean, really, what are the chances that you are going to do business with someone who yesterday you gave them your business card and today they are sending you mass emails. It tells me I’m just a number to them. Just another business card to put on the list.

Next, like I said, you could lose all your lists from SPAM complaints and get your email account shut down without warning. And, finally, you could get your website hosting account shut down without warning, which means bye-bye to your website, and you’re out of business.

What CAN you do with a business card to build your list? If you ask me, a one-time personal email to the person on the card inviting them to join your email list with a link to where they can subscribe if they want to is okay. It’s a one-time invitation, the same way you would invite someone if you were talking to them in person. And if they don’t subscribe to your list, don’t take it personally. Either your subscribe (opt-in) page needs to be improved or they are just not interested right now. Hey, you and I both know that we can’t be on everyone’s email list. Furthermore, most email management services charge you based on the number of people on your list. You wouldn’t want to pay to send an email to someone that doesn’t have time or interest to read it anyway would you?

However, when you build your email lists the right way, you’ll have a list of people that want you to contact them, and want to you to send them information about what you do. What’s the right way? That’s a whole other topic.

So, protect your business and build your email lists without SPAMMING.

What email management system do I personally use and recommend?

Have you been fooled by SEO marketing? I am going to spill the beans on deceptive advertising by some web designers and do-it-yourself website companies. What beans am I spilling? Search engine optimization beans.

I was meeting with a prospective marketing client a few weeks ago who wanted to discuss search engine optimizing their existing website to work their way up to the top of Google.

We met for an hour or so to discuss strategy for achieving a higher placement in Google. Well, to make a long story short, I received an email about a week later thanking me for my time and telling me that they are going to rebuild their site with a do-it-yourself service and that “SEO comes with it.” SCREEEEECH….CRASH!

SEO comes with it? What does that mean?

Out of curiosity, I checked it out. “SEO comes with it,” in this case meant that you can edit the title of the website, the text of the website, and the tags and description for the website if you want.

The illusion is that if you build a website that comes with SEO, that the website will be optimized for you. Wrong! That’s like selling someone a car with no oil, no gas, no brake fluid, no transmission fluid, no coolant, and no battery, then advertising that it “comes with an engine.” There are some mechanical parts under the hood, but that car is going nowhere.

So, the new car owner spends the next 6-12 months beating their head against the steering wheel trying to figure out why this car that “comes with an engine” isn’t going anywhere.

Search engine optimization is a series of strategies used to help boost a website’s placement in the search engines, and it’s only as good as the marketer implementing those strategies. All search engine optimization is definitely not created equal. In fact, if done wrong, Google will penalize your website and kick you down even further.

To my prospective client’s credit, they did say that their SEO “will need a tune up after we are done.” So, they’re on the right track. However, I went ahead and looked at the code of several websites built using the do-it-yourself system. What did I find? About 9 out of ten had ZERO search engine optimization done and 1 had a weak attempt at search engine optimizing the site.

So when you read something like this on a DIY website builder sales page, “Optimized for the best SEO and results ranking,” which I just quoted from the Features section of a popular website builder, don’t believe the hype.

Want a pair of second eyes to look at you website SEO, visit my company site at www.integrityonlinemarketing.com and mention this post when calling or contacting us.

Where will you be November 5th, 6th, and 7th? I’m not a gambler but I’m going to be in Las Vegas!

Many of my personal coaching clients know that Armand Morin was the first internet marketer that got me hooked into the business. The man is brilliant and he’s putting on the very last “Big Seminar” internet marketing event ever! This is Big Seminar 14 and it’s the last one ever again!

It’s happening November 5th – 7th in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It’s three FULL days of online marketing training that you simply cannot miss; and it’s in Las Vegas! I got my ticket. Yes, I’m flying from Hawaii to Vegas to attend this awesome event.

Now get this. Armand just cut the price of registration in half!!! Yep, since this is going to be the biggest and last Big Seminar ever, he wanted to make sure you could be there. What about all those who paid full price already? Armand already refunded half of their payment. This seminar is about you and growing your business. Period.

Tickets were originally $1997 and have been slashed to just $997!!! And you can bring a guest for an additional 50% off of that.

Hey, would I go if I personally didn’t know this was going to drastically grow my business? No way. I’d be enjoying the surf back home. But, on Nov. 5-7th, you know where I’ll be. . .Vegas.

After you get your tickets, let me know and we can be sure to meet up at the event.

Rarely do I come across anything that sparks me to make an announcement like this, however, in my book Yahoo! Small Business web hosting has Struck Out!

While it’s a piece of cake to register domain names and build a D0-It-Yourself website for cheap that you will quickly realize must be replaced by a professional site if you have any hopes of generating business with it, it’s a royal pain when you’re ready to cross that bridge.

Rather than bore you with all the technicalities or the system, it would be like handing a bag of ’86 Toyota Tercel car parts to a master mechanic and asking him or her to build a Porsche.

What do I wholeheartedly recommend? Scan the sidebar to the right of this post for the answer.

Wondering if you’re website will win the luck of the draw? Well, it’s inevitable that when a website becomes popular and successful, that someone is going to say, “They’re so lucky,” as if to imply that thousands of visitors all gathered together in a big room, pulled a website address out of a hat, and decided to visit that site every day for the rest of their lives and buy things from it.

Most website owners would like to think that’s the way it works. They play their website like the lottery. . . throw some money in, get a site, and hope the world falls in love with it making the owner insanely rich.

If that’s how you’re going to play the game, save your money for Las Vegas. You probably have a better chance of winning there than online.

Successful websites that generate leads and make money for the owner are planned out meticulously and strategically positioned for success. I know what you’re thinking. . . how?

Well, I used to buy run down houses, renovate, them and resell them. My mentor taught me the secret trick to fix anything. He would say, “How you do you fix a leaking roof? It’s easy! Write a check.” ”How do you fix a broken foundation? It’s easy. Write a check!” ”How you to get rid of scary mold? It’s easy! Write a check.”

When he used to say things like that, I would think to myself, “Oh man, I can’t keep writing checks for stuff like that.” But the truth was I had to, and it was was well worth it. I was running a business, and my job was to run the business, not to try and fix the leaking toilets. And the truth is, paying to get things done was always a fraction of what I though it would actually cost.

What’s my point you ask? We’re not fixing houses.

The point is, when you take your business online, treat it like a business and get the right people working on your team. If not, while you’re trying to figure out how to get a video to show up on your website, your wise competitor has already hired the right guy to do it for him, and he can now spend his time where it matters most, helping his customers and filling orders.

The last couple weeks have been very exciting! I’ve been working with a new client of mine, Scott Bucknell from a company called Race Hawaii. It’s a company that sells surfboards, stand up paddle boards, and related accessories. Scott came to me with a new product that he’s preparing to release to the market, and we got right to work with a product pre-launch campaign.

We’ve been growing an email list for about a week now and the results have been fantastic. We’re now moving into the next stage of the pre-launch and expect his list to continue to grow in the coming weeks. For those interested, here’s the squeeze page we built that is pulling about a 50% opt-in rate!

That’s right! Almost 50%…. a full 1/2 of all visitors are opting in to the page! How? And extremely targeted launch with a intricately crafted squeeze page.

We started the pre-launch about a week ago at midnight, and by 8:30 in the morning I got a call from Scott, in awe with the response we got in such a short period of time. He sent me an email that said, “Is this for real!?” I replied, “Yes, it’s for real. . . and we’re just getting started.”

Is a 50% opt-in rate possible? Yes! I’ll keep you posted on the progress of the campaign. And for those who want to see the squeeze page, go to www.racehawaiistandup.com/powerglider.

Here’s the proof. The /powerglider/ page is the squeeze page. The only way to get to the preview page is to enter your name and email address and opt-in. Notice 444 views of the squeeze page and 213 views of the preview page. Almost 50%. . . Sweet!!! And the numbers are excellent for the niche market we’re targeting after the first phase of online marketing. I just rolled out phase 2 today, and we have about 5 more pushes before the pre-launch is completely on autopilot.

Here’s a letter I recently received from Scott of Race Hawaii. . .

“If you have a product that needs to be introduced or brought to the market, and your website brought to the forefront of the search engines, I’d like to recommend Nate Burgoyne or Integrity Online Marketing.

I am aware a lot of people are good at web design and are capable in this generation of electronic expertise. Nate not only stands head and shoulders above computer literate web mastering and design competitors, but brings a special talent with the written word to describe and capture the essence of the product.

This has proven invaluable for me in making a new patent pending product known.

Nate and his business relationships fire on all cylinders because he is smart, he listens, and then he creates what is needed.”
Scott Bucknell
RACE HAWAII
