Are you getting hammered with SEO solicitations too? You’re not alone. Business owners are contacting me in a panic, “Nate, Nate . . . I got this email saying that I’m not on page 1 of Google and that I should be. What should I do?” Relax, you’re not alone. They’re even soliciting my SEO company, which is somewhat humorous to me. What does that tell me? There’s a software that’s spam emailing companies around the world. However, they’ve got a pretty good sales email and there are some cool things we can learn from their efforts. Here are three of them:

You can create your market.

Email is a powerful marketing tool.

Your competition can create business for you.

Would I trust my personal SEO to a stranger? No way. But c’mon Nate, you try everything to see if it works. Well, not this time. And, why not? A huge percentage of my business is picking up the pieces after SEO has been done wrong. One prospective client came to me and said, “We got SEO done and we’re nowhere to be found online. Can you help?” After having a closer look at the attempt to search engine optimize the site, I found the problem. What was it? Whoever optimized the site thought it would be “tricky” to put keywords with black text on a black background to hide the words and boost seo with hidden text. While that may have worked in 1985, it got this particular company severely penalized by Google. I went though page after page trying to find them in the search engines and could not find them anywhere. What can be done to fix the problem? The SEO needs to be fixed, then the website needs to be altered, and then the endless process of resubmitting the site to Google for reconsideration, which may or may not prove successful. Rarely would I ever recommend starting over, but for this particular case, that was the recommendation.

Want a huge SEO tip? Add fresh content to your website weekly or daily if possible.

Alright gang, here’s the deal. . . The FTC is cracking down once again on websites that don’t have their legal ducks in a row. The solution is easier than you think! Reputable business owners like you, could get pinned by the FTC for missing key documents such as a privacy policy for websites.

You may not be aware of it, but your website may not have all the legal documentation it needs.

What happens if the FTC picks you? Well, not much more than shutting down your website, closing your merchant account, and freezing your bank accounts. If that isn’t going to impact your business, don’t bother reading on.

In all seriousness, the wrong legal documents attached to your website could cost you your business. When the internet was young, it used to be sort of a free for all, but now you need a proper privacy policy for websites and other documents.

It’s easy to protect yourself without paying an attorney thousands of dollars to draft the right documents.

My wife is going to kill me for this one! Seriously! Why? We’re super busy right now, AND now I’m doing this insane promotion, AND it’s FREE work on the line! Why the heck would I do something like that?

Well, I’ve been playing around with some offer-you-can’t-refuse headlines this week and this one has been really sticking with me. My hands took over my body, typed out this offer and clicked the “Publish” button. The headline is awesome. Shoot! Who wouldn’t want a half price website? And who wouldn’t like good shot at getting it FREE? I would. Here’s the story…

I have web design company called Integrity Online Marketing. We are in Hawaii (and love it here) and we have clients here locally as well as in New York, Arizona, Connecticut, all over the place. We build awesome websites, do SEO, etc. Well, we recently rolled out an option for our budget strapped clients that’ll get them up and running with a professional website for $493.95.

Well, I’m HACKING IT IN HALF THROUGH THIS FRIDAY DECEMBER 16TH for the NEXT 7 PEOPLE that want it.

It’s awesome. You can check out the package itself at www.integrityonlinemarketing.com. It’s called the “Core Website Package.” We brought together 185 professional web designs that you can choose from. You give us your logo, content, and any special images, and BLAM! we get ‘em online in about 2 weeks. But not this time…JUST ONE WEEK!

That’s right, this week I’m putting the pedal to the metal and guaranteeing your website up and running in ONE WEEK after we receive your text, logo, and any special images you’d like used, or it’s FREE. This is NOT advertised on the website or anywhere else. It’s exclusively for you as a follower of my blog and newsletter.

I know your next question…can my friend get the deal? Fine. Yes. BUT, they have to join my newsletter list. I’m serious. I’m going to check if they’re on there.

YOU HAVE TO EMAIL ME PERSONALLY TO GET THIS. I haven’t even told my staff about it.

Shoot me an email at nate@nateburgoyne.com with “HOOK ME UP NATE” in the subject line. In the email let me know what design you want, attach your logo, website text, and any special images you’d like used. If not, we’ll use professional stock photography.

So, for just $246.97 ( It’s $493.95 for everyone else.) your website will be rolling in a week. Our Core Website packages include hosting, backups, and monitoring for $47.23/month thereafter. No contract. Cancel any time. No strings attached.

Be one of the first 7 to shoot me an email and I’ll hook you up. I can feel the sweat beading up on my forehead before I click the “Publish” button on my blog. Well (hold breath) here it goes. ***click***

If you don’t have a blog heat map, you are missing out big time! Imagine if you knew EXACTLY where every visitor to your blog or website clicked on your page? Not just what links they clicked but exactly where their cursor was when they pushed the button? Wouldn’t it be useful for you to know if people are clicking on part of your website that isn’t even a link? What if you turned that part of your website into a link so you could send your visitors to additional information? It’s super powerful!

Here’s an example. This is a screen shot of a blog heat map for my company website www.integrityonlinemarketing.com. All the little blue dots are where people have clicked recently. You’ll see that nobody is clicking the “Request Quote” button but they are definitely clicking the “See Packages” one. They are looking at the “Our Picks” menu item but not “The Blog”. With this awesome information I can make critical revisions to my website to encourage visitors to click where I want them to click and increase sales.

Normally, for a service like this, you have to pay big bucks on a monthly basis and the data is limited to a certain number of pages. However, I stumbled across a diamond in the rough when I found this WordPress plugin, Click Heat Dynamo, that works indefinitely for as many sites as you’d like. In fact, I actually bought this plugin while they were still testing it. I saw the power of it and didn’t even think twice about putting my credit card on my desk and typing the numbers into the order form to get it.

I personally use this plugin and it’s definitely worth you checking out. To completely understand what this is all about, check out the videos on the website here.

If you’re a normal entrepreneurial minded business owner, you occasionally lie awake at night staring up at the ceiling fantasizing about what it would be like for your business to show up on the first page of Google. “Ahh…,” you think, ”All my problems will be solved,” you think to yourself.

The truth is, a first page listing on Google might not change your business one bit. “Woah! Nate! What are you talking about? Getting people on page one is part of your business, right?”

Yes, it is. However, many businesses aren’t ready to be on page one of Google for a number of reasons. Why? First of all, how many websites show up on the first page of Google or any other search engine? About 10. What makes you think that just because you’re on the first page, they are going to click on your company? When you search for something on the internet do you open every single one of the of the top 10 results for what you were searching for? No, of course not. You scan the results for the one that looks most relevant to you.

If you are in the top 10 results did you know you can control what text shows up in the search results to represent your business? You can, by editing the “Title” and “Description” meta tags of your website. What if you put a call to action in your title or description? Would that increase the number of people that click through to YOUR website? You bet your biffy it would.

For more great tips and discussion about “Are you ready for page 1 of Google?”, listen to www.internetpowerradio.com tomorrow, Friday, at 10am Hawaii, 1 pm Pacific. You can listen to the show streaming online or by calling in on your phone. See you then.

On March 1st, only 100 charter members will be accepted to join my IOM Power Team. That’s right, only 100. What is the IOM Power Team? The IOM Power Team is a members-only online community where I share the trade secrets that I personally use to get to the top of Google, automate social media marketing, turn blogs and websites into money-making assets, and much, much more. How valuable is this information? Companies pay me thousands of dollars to personally do exactly what I will be showing you in the IOM Power Team through a series of video tutorials that anyone watch and do at home on a PC, laptop, or Mac.

Is the Power Team for everyone? No. If you aren’t serious about starting a business online or marketing your existing business, save your money for Happy Meals at McDonalds. However, if you are willing to make the time to follow the easy step-by-step instructions that I lay out for you in videos, join the IOM Power Team. For more information and to be notified when registration is open, go to www.iompowerteam.com.

“May I have your card?” Nate stalls….waits….thinks…holds his breath…and replies, “Um, sure” while he slowly hands it over. Why am I holding my breath? There is a growing trend of small business owners collecting business cards and adding those people to their email lists. This is not how to build a mailing list. That’s SPAM. And after you get a couple SPAM complaints from people who didn’t join your list, your email company will close your account, you’ll lose all you lists, and possibly your website.

When someone gives you a business card they are not authorizing you to add them to your email list. Sure, you can add them to your contacts database but not to your mailing list. For someone to join your mailing list, they have to personally enter their name and email address in a form, either online or on paper, and confirm that they would like to be added to your list. And to be extra sure about it, most email management systems then send a second email to the subscribed person requesting that they confirm again that they want to be on the list (called a double-optin). Getting someone’s business card then forcing that person onto your list is…SPAM, and it can get you in trouble.

How much trouble? First of all, you’re shooting yourself in the foot by sending unsolicited information to someone you hope will be a client of yours. Bridge of trust…. BURNED. I mean, really, what are the chances that you are going to do business with someone who yesterday you gave them your business card and today they are sending you mass emails. It tells me I’m just a number to them. Just another business card to put on the list.

Next, like I said, you could lose all your lists from SPAM complaints and get your email account shut down without warning. And, finally, you could get your website hosting account shut down without warning, which means bye-bye to your website, and you’re out of business.

What CAN you do with a business card to build your list? If you ask me, a one-time personal email to the person on the card inviting them to join your email list with a link to where they can subscribe if they want to is okay. It’s a one-time invitation, the same way you would invite someone if you were talking to them in person. And if they don’t subscribe to your list, don’t take it personally. Either your subscribe (opt-in) page needs to be improved or they are just not interested right now. Hey, you and I both know that we can’t be on everyone’s email list. Furthermore, most email management services charge you based on the number of people on your list. You wouldn’t want to pay to send an email to someone that doesn’t have time or interest to read it anyway would you?

However, when you build your email lists the right way, you’ll have a list of people that want you to contact them, and want to you to send them information about what you do. What’s the right way? That’s a whole other topic.

So, protect your business and build your email lists without SPAMMING.

What email management system do I personally use and recommend?
