Local Businesses Get The Edge With Online Marketing

Most of you know I live on the North Shore of Oahu where local businesses is the lifeblood of the town. The historic town of Haleiwa is lined with surf shops, clothing stores, jewelry shops, and restaurants. Even though the economy and tourism is down, there are several businesses that are taking their marketing online for additional exposure and are experiencing great success. In my personal opinion, it’s those businesses that are able to effectively use the power of online marketing that will be able to best weather any economic storms that may come our way.

Effectively opening up your business to the world wide web, opens the doors of your business to the world and make every person with a computer and an internet connection, a potential customer. How wide is that door? Well, over 74% of all Americans have bought something online. The potential is huge for those who do it right.

So, what does it mean to “do it right”? First, you’ve got to have a website. Second, that website needs to be built or optimized from the inside out to get high search engine rank on Google and Yahoo search engines. Thirdly, the website needs to be organized in such a way that it converts visitors into customers.

I was working with a local Haleiwa business, Quiksilver North Shore Boardriders Club a few weeks ago to help them market their business online and here are the results:

In just a few weeks, they went from no website and no search engine rank to….

#1 in Yahoo for “north shore board riders”
#2 in Yahoo for “north shore surf shop”
#2 in Yahoo for “surfshop Haleiwa”
#3 in Yahoo for “north shore surf gear”
#3 in Yahoo for “north shore oahu surf shop”
#3 in Yahoo for “boardriders north shore”
#5 in Yahoo for “oahu north shore surf shops”
#3 in Google for “northshore boardriders club”
Top Ten in Google for “hawaii quiksilver t-shirts”

And web traffic from 40 Google and Yahoo search terms and 13 countries around the world.

The greatest thing is, this is just the beginning for Boardriders Club. The site has been live for only about a month now and every time I check the statistics, they’re moving up in search engine ranking for several search terms.

Hurray for local businesses! If you want to visit the site you can go to

Spice Up Your Craigslist Ads with Symbols

Looking for a quick and easy way to get more attention to your Craigslist Ads? Symbols are an easy way to get seen. When you put a little symbol in the title of the ad such as ☺ ► ☼ → ♥ ♫, your Craigslist ad stand out from the mob of ads that flood Craigslist on a daily basis.

It’s easy as pie to do. Simply hold down the alt key and type a series of numbers and “Blam!”, you’ve got a symbol on your page.

Have fun experimenting. Here are a few:
alt 1 = ☺
alt 16 = ►
alt 15 = ☼
alt 26 = →
alt 3 = ♥
alt 14 = ♫
alt 0162 = ¢

Starting Up an E-Business? Two Products I Recommend

I recently received a question from a new friend of mine, Tess, that I recently met through LinkedIn. She’s looking to start a new business online to earn extra income from home and is wondering where to start. There is so much information available all over the internet, it’s hard to know what is legit and what’s a scam. While I won’t venture to call out scams, I will share what sources I go to from time to time and that I recommend for direction when getting started.

First of all, I want everyone to know that the internet is a really fun place to be, and it could be as simple as starting a blog about your favorite hobbies and activities then turning it into a money making machine.

Secondly, although you can make money online overnight, it’s important to remember that your internet marketing business is a business. It’s not a get rich quick scheme. It’s a business that you can grow step by step and sometimes very quickly with the right tools and education.

Now, where would I recommend that you start? Like I said, here are some of the resources that I personally use and recommend.

Armand Morin is a great internet marketer with a fantastic program called Internet Marketing Explained. I’ve met Armand personally and almost always some of his audio training on my iPod. He recently udated and relaunched his course. There are tons of audio and video files that you can load on your iPod and listen to while you’re working at your computer, driving the car, or washing dishes. When I’m listening to Armand, I always make sure I have a pen and paper nearby to take notes. If Armand is selling a $2000 course, he loads it with $10,000 worth of training. Here’s a free video about it. It’s definitely worth watching:

Another resource for information for the more budget minded marketer is Brian Wynn’s Millionaire League. You can see the sales page HERE. I bought this product a few years ago, and it’s one of the best $27 products I’ve bought. He adds new things from time to time and it’s loaded with great information. I’ve implemented many of the strategies in his membership site myself.

One of the biggest mistakes that new internet marketers make, is paralysis of analysis. I say, just jump in and go for it. Take action and it’ll work for you. Does this stuff really work? Yes.

Here are some more places to look for information on starting your home e-business. Most programs are actually very good. Have a look at the sales page. Does the sales page have the tone or feel that sits well with you? If so, buy it and check it out! Almost every program that I’ve ever seen online comes with a no questions asked money-back guarantee, so there’s no risk when you buy the stuff. Buy it, and if you don’t like it or if it feels like a scam to you, simply ask for a refund.

Happy marketing! And by, the way, watch for my personal e-commerce home study course coming soon…

Xobni: An Awesome Email Application

Looking for a way to sort through emails and grow your Facebook and Linked in connections? Pronounced “Zob-nee”, this might be the answer you’re looking for. It’s Inbox spelled backwards and it expands your Microsoft Outlook email management software. This is my favorite Outlook email application. It speeds up my work and does wonders for my business, and it’s FREE. Yep. Kathy Kamauu at Return on Investment Strategies International introduced me to the software and I had to spread the word.

In a nutshell, this is what I use it for. With Xobni I can quickly search through my thousands of emails extremely fast to find conversations I’ve had with friends and clients. Also, when I read an email, the software automatically searches through Facebook and LinkedIn to find out if the name or email address matches any accounts on those sites. It makes sorting emails and connecting with people a breeze.

I believe it also can be used with regular Gmail and some other email providers.

You can download it at Enjoy!
